Movie Review : Georgettans Crackers Go Wet

Movie Review : Georgettans Crackers Go Wet

Georgettans Pooram ends up as a testimony to the waning powers of the evergreen star Dileep, says Sriram

There are stars, super stars and then there is Dileep. As mentioned in the title of Georgettan’s Pooram as Janapriya Nayakan, he enjoys an evergreen status in the Malayalam industry for his ability of pulling the masses into the theatre irrespective of the crew or other movies running parallel. Thus, he is widely expected to be the dark horse in a tightly packed summer season. To the disappointment of his followers and fans alike, the half-baked Georgettan’s Pooram fails to deliver in any aspect, be it out-and-out entertainment or quality cinema, ending up below average.

Music by Gopi Sundar was ordinary, not contributing anything to lift the movie. His songs also maintained an average level.

Movie Review : The Great Father Is A Super Hero Indeed

Movie Review : The Great Father Is A Super Hero Indeed

Along with a lot of thrill and mass, it states strong facts like rape does not steal anything away from the injured one, voices Sriram.

Ask a child to define the term 'Hero'. Then ask the kid to talk about his/her dad. The answers will be strikingly matching. In an age where brutality against children is encroaching unheard levels, David Ninan of The Great Father dons the role of a super hero to avenge for his daughter. He is helped to reach the audience by a great story, gripping execution, fantastic performances, deep and powerful dialogues all controlled by screenplay which could have been crisper.

The background score is almost symbolic of the flow of the film. When the movie gets into a high, the BGM almost stands out as the highlight. But very often it feels that the score doesn’t do justice to the intensity around. Songs by Gopi Sundar are strictly average. They fail to make vital contributions in terms of impact and promotion.

Movie Review : Take Off Lands Right In The Hearts Of The Audience

Movie Review : Take Off Lands Right In The Hearts Of The Audience
Parvathys breathtaking performance is the soul of the movie, opines Sriram

It’s not always that a movie leaves the viewers with their hearts heavy. It takes genuineness and intensity of situations to do that. Take off, through its impeccable execution of a heavy weight theme gifts the viewers an enthralling emotional experience.

Take off’s gripping cinematography, editing and sound design played vital roles in the intensity of the movie. The score by Gopi Sundar hit its target well. The director did a fine job in not overusing the main BGM dominating in the movie’s trailer, which also carried in it traces of a previous song by Gopi Sundar.

Movie Review : Logan: His Time Has Come

Movie Review : Logan: His Time Has Come
Is “Logan” more powerful because of what the superhero genre has delivered over the last decade? Does it seem both groundbreaking and classic because it doesn’t feel like a modern superhero movie, especially those with the Marvel brand? Don’t worry.

“Logan” calls back directly to “Shane,” including a scene in which the characters watch the film, but it has more echoes of late-career films for icons such as “The Shootist” and “Unforgiven” in the way it deconstructs the line between hero and legend. Logan (Hugh Jackman) is a Western archetype, the gunslinger forced to put away his six-shooters and try to live out his days as routinely as possible. In the world of “Logan,” The Uncanny X-Men comics exist, meaning that Logan/Wolverine is like a retired sports hero or celebrity, someone who’s recognized but no longer really essential. It is 2029 and mutants have been removed from the human bloodline, meaning that the creaky Logan and the nonagenarian Professor X (Patrick Stewart) are the end of an era. Or are they?

Movie Review : Angamaly Is Magically Local, Right From The Title Cards

Movie Review : Angamaly Is Magically Local, Right From The Title Cards
Angamaly diaries is another unbelievable Lijo Jose Pellisseri expression, the masses would love to experience, says Sriram

There are movies that belong to various genres and then there are movies which have 'Lijo Jose Pellisseri's' written before its name. The man who makes cinema after giving it a definition by himself is back with Angamaly Diaries, which claims to be 'Katta Local' featuring 86 new faces.

LJP's relentless and uncompromising nature of film making continues after Double Barrel. But this time the movie is almost certain to hit the taste buds among the masses.

Movie Review : Veeram Is All About The Venom Of Betrayal

Movie Review : Veeram Is All About The Venom Of Betrayal
Veeram doing well in the box office would be the biggest victory of Malayalam cinema in recent times, voices Sriram

Vadakkan Paattu or the Northern ballad is characterised by its simplicity and its power of delivering the story, rather than the drama involved in it. Veeram is a valiant effort by the one and only Jayaraj to create cinema which has a similar impact. In the process, he courageously broke all the existing norms of producing a commercially successful big budget film, overlooking the stars available in the Malayalam industry for actors who perfectly fitted in the moulds of the characters, almost like how a common man would imagine Chandu and Aromal chekavar when he hears the Vadakkan paattu.

Unlike foreign industries, Indian film composers are seldom known for their background scores than their songs. Jayaraj attempted to change the trend by giving the music credits to Jeff Rona, whose scores gave brought alive the visuals on screen.

Movie Review : Aby Flies Deep Into The Hearts Of The Audience

Movie Review : Aby Flies Deep Into The Hearts Of The Audience

Aby leaves the viewer with the impression that this incredible story could have been exploited more on screen, says Sriram

To be a pilot would be the ambition of almost every kid at some point of their life. It’s the basic human tendency to have fascination and curiosity about flying objects that makes one think so. Almost every one of those desires gets replaced because of practical reasons, except that of some dreamers'. Aby is the story of a kid who was born to dream of flying, so much that it completely conquered his thoughts. Aby grabbed eye balls for certain controversies and backing as a true story. Its trailer, which gave hopes of an inspiring ride, was also well received by the audience.

However Aby is certainly worth a watch if it gives you immense joy in watching someone living his lifelong dream. The fact that there is a true story close to that of Aby also reinforces the feel of the movie.

Movie Review : Oru Mexican Aparatha Is Stylish But Nothing More

Movie Review : Oru Mexican Aparatha Is Stylish But Nothing More

Oru Mexican Aparatha ends up a politically immature attempt overly reliant on the power of the red flag and revolution to arouse the masses, voices Sriram

Campus politics coloured in revolutionary red is an ingredient that promises compelling cinema. Oru Mexican Aparatha came with a trailer that gave indications that it has mixed the ingredients well for a riveting ride.

Mexican Aparatha ends up a politically immature attempt overly reliant on the power of the red flag and revolution to arouse the masses. There is no denying that the movie has gripping execution and good performances but all based on a weak, half baked script crumbling in its business end.

Movie Review : Ezra - A Treat For Horror Lovers

Movie Review : Ezra - A Treat For Horror Lovers
The brilliant execution trumps the cliches associated with a horror flick, Voices Sriram

‘Your worst fear comes true' is the tagline that Ezra came with. For a lot of reasons including its trailer, teaser and Prithviraj Sukumaran's habit of taking Malayalam cinema to the next level, Ezra was thought of as the first fully fledged Malayalam horror film.

More than a month before Ezra's release, the Rahul Raj's 'Lailakame' came up as a chartbuster. Back ground Music is often regarded as the life force for a horror movie. Ezra's life was safe in Sushin shyam's hands as his tunes contributed immensely to the adrenaline rush in the audience.

Movie Review: Fukri - Bright Start Crash Lands At The End

Movie Review: Fukri - Bright Start Crash Lands At The End

All the build up falls apart like a castle of cards, voices Sriram

Fukri starts off on a bright note giving hopes of a breezy entertainer. The elements for an out and out fun ride were being set up in terms of the trustworthy plot of character mix up and an array of comedians. Siddique kept introducing new characters, twists and more confusion, almost reminding one of Priyadarsan flicks and even his own 'King Liar'.  But the feature of such movies is that the director should carefully untie the knots in order to convince his viewers. Fukri, fails in that respect and badly crash lands at the end.

Movie Review: Kaabil - Hrithik Stars In This Revenge Thriller

Movie Review: Kaabil - Hrithik Stars In This Revenge Thriller

Hrithik Roshan puts up a mesmerising performance, which proved to be the soul of Kaabil, says Sriram.

Revenge stories across industries tend to follow a pattern. A pattern with a sequence that starts with happiness, tragedy and revenge. Hence the greatest challenge for a film maker is to create cinema that can surpass the unavoidable predictability the revenge genre poses.

Hrithik Roshan puts up a mesmerising performance, which proved to be the soul of Kaabil. All the hard work he had put up for the movie bore fruit as it ends up as one of his finest performances. Yami Gautam complemented him nicely to portray Supriya.

Movie Review: Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol

Movie Review: Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol
Despite its imperfect script and slow execution, Munthirivallikal is set on fire by the typical Mohanlal everyone loves, says Sriram.

Mohanlal's charisma when he dons romantic roles can be quite deceiving. It can make the audience forget the shortcomings of the movie that they are watching, and enjoy the so called 'Lalism' happening before them.

'Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol' is the latest addition to that list. After a prolific 2016, Mohanlal starts his 2017 with Jibu Jacob who silently turned his first touch into gold.
